How We Estimate Depreciation

We use average depreciation rates by body style and brand based on Australian market resale data. Utes hold value best (losing ~42% over 5 years), while sedans and luxury cars depreciate faster (55-60%).

Toyota and Suzuki consistently retain the most value. European luxury brands and newer Chinese brands depreciate the fastest. These are estimates based on historical trends, not guarantees of future resale value.

Tips to Minimise Depreciation

  • Buy white, silver, or grey. These colours resell fastest in Australia.
  • Keep km under the average (15,000/year). Every 10,000km over average drops value 2-3%.
  • Service on time with full logbook stamps.
  • Buy a 1-3 year old car and let someone else eat the steepest depreciation.
